
There are many causes for clumsiness of the hands or impairment of fine motor skills: muscular dystrophy
Peripheral nerve disease
Diseases of the peripheral nerves (nerves that travel from the spinal cord to the muscles) produce clumsiness of the hands due to impaired sensation, weakness, and muscle atrophy. Trapping of a peripheral nerve (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome) can produce clumsiness of the hands due to pain, loss of sensation, and muscle atrophy.
